opening update : Chiqui Social

on washington Blvd. - culver city

opened fall of 2018.

Chiqui Social is a curated Spanish immersion learning studio and social club for kids and families. They understand the challenges of bilingual parenting and help incorporate Spanish and culture into kid’s everyday lives, offering community and a fun place to learn, grow, and thrive. We designed a space for them that focused on being appealing and useful to children and adults alike. This socks-only studio is a study of thoughtful space allotment, complete with modular storage components and integrated seating. Our custom designed children chairs offer additional storage and use, as they can be used three ways: child height seats for young learners, flipped on the side for adult-sized low stools, or stacked to create additional storage.

opening update : KOnbi

on Sunset Blvd. - Echo Park

Opened on October 2nd, 2018.

We are excited to announce that our clients, critically acclaimed chefs Akira Akuto and Nick Montgomery, just opened their new project of our design, Konbi, in Echo Park. Keeping a straightforward approach, Konbi will deliver Japanese-style sandwiches on the quick to the greater Echo Park and Eastside communities.

The shop itself is nestled into a historic building off Sunset Blvd., and is long and narrow in order to encourage the “grab and go” lunching practice. The small space presented the challenge of tight space planning, thus pushing us to utilize each and every key touch point to maximum advantage. Every joint and detail was carefully considered in recognition of the scale of the space, so that customers would, if even for a moment, be immersed into a finely crafted environment.

Opened on August 18th, this is not your kid’s ice cream shop. Featuring flavors made to tantalize adult taste buds, this ice cream shop is famous for boozy concoctions like “Secret Breakfast” a flavor featuring spiked cereal milk with corn flakes. The official launch was hosted in our new shop design.

Summer may be winding down, but after all, it is Southern CA, so be sure to stop by and try one of their famous flavors today!

In The Works : REI Kingsbury

Coming soon to Chicago, IL

We’re excited to announce that our friends over at REI are opening our design concept for their new store location in the heart of Chicago’s “wild mile” along the north branch of the up-and-coming canal area. Complete with natural habitat improvements, pedestrian trails and walkways, fishing stations, viewing platforms, canoe launches, and many other amenities, this is a reinvisioned store experience that you won’t want to miss.

Turning away from the busy Chicago arterial, guests will enter through the Parkscape side-street and immediately will be greeted by a towering A-frame, Great Lakes style cabin on the second level that you can stop and grab a cup of coffee and regroup from the strain of navigating urban traffic and transport. As you work your way in, the main space opens to a sprawling view of the river, and the divide between the city and the outdoors is momentarily blurred. Looking around the canal and the surrounding natural landscape, there is always something new to see every season.

Parked permanently at the basin nearby, a former industrial barge will be converted into a garden that is maintained by the community, almost like a miniature floating island. And with the new walking paths that will be established, you will be free to wander around and really take in the breadth of this hidden district in Chicago. And if you’re still craving more adventure, REI will be launching canoes and kayaks from their dock so you can try out their gear before you buy, allowing you to take a relaxing paddle on the river to downtown Chicago.

This new experience is guaranteed to give you a fresh perspective of the city, and will set the stage for a new age of unexpected retail experiences. You can look forward to this new REI launch around fall 2019, so stay posted to see how it develops.

WORKING with Phil Otto and his team at ODG over the past 6 years on multiple projects for REI has been a true pleasure. He and his team bring something different that architecture firms and brand agencIES don’t offer. His background and training in anthropology and his experience in retail provide a truly unique and relevant perspective. He not only understands current culture, he knows how to get shit done.”

- Elizabeth Dowd, Divisional Vice President-Retail Experience @ REI Co-op.
